'Alternative' album adverts...

LOUISE AUBRIE
The advert is fairly simple however effective and eye catching. The advert is a picture of the artist overlayed by small facts about the album in writing. Although the main structure is a photo of the artist, through editing the colours are appropriate and the focuses are made to be in the correct place; the edges of the photo surrounding the artist are made to be dark fading out to black underneath her and to the bottom of the advert, which allows the writing to stand out without distracting from the photo of the artist.
The only accessories used in the photo is the artist with her guitar and microphone; this gives the consumer an idea of her image or style. The only information on the advert is the necessary information; the artists name, album slogan, album name, producer, her website and then a line is also put in to describe the advert 'Stunning Debut Album Out Now'.

(From NME magazine, 30 October 2010 edition, page 29)

FRIENDLY FIRES
This advert not only has information on the album but it also has the new tour dates for the album; which is giving the artist more oppurtunity of sales in both areas. The advert is fairly simple however eye catching through the image used in the centre of the advert which is the same image used on their album cover. This is placed on a black background which fills the rest of the page. The writing decreases in size as it goes firther down the page, this allows the name of the band at the top of the page to stand out the most, followed by 'The debut album out now'. Songs included in the album are then stated followed by a quote describing the album to help promote good reviews.
Underneath the image at the bottom of the advert is where tour dates are listed. They are placed well as they dont make the page look overloaded with tour dates through almost being seperate to the rest of the advert. Through using one image and black with white writing the advert is bold and stands out and fits well with the genre.
