1. Are you male or female?

The results show that more of those participating in the questionairre were male, which could have some effect on the results however it is not a significantly big difference.
2. Age......
From the results it can be seen that the age group with the most participants was 19-30, followed by 11-18; this shows that it was more of a younger generation answering the questionairre which could alter preferences to taste however this is still a fairly wide age category.
3. Do you watch music videos?
This result shows us that a majority do watch music videos; it could be possible that the seven of which answered no could be those in the older age categories? Younger people could be more likely to watch music videos due to wanting to follow artists looks, being more familiar with the internet etc. However the result does show that music videos are vastly popular.
If so, how many do you watch per week...
The most amount of people said that they watched between 6 and 10 music videos per week, averaging to approximately one a day, however nine people also said they watched
between 11 and 15 per week which is double that and 8 people said between 0 and 5. This result shows that this number varies accross the board and changes completely depending on the person and potentially their spare time? Only three people said they watch more than 16 music videos per week which shows that this is perhaps unusual.
4. How would you watch music videos?
50% of those that answered said that they watched music videos over the internet, whilst only 2 said that they used artists websites to view their music videos and the rest said that they used the music channel. This result shows us that there are many sources other than artists websites to view a variety of music videos and that perhaps artists websites aren't something used very often by the consumer.
5. Which music channel are you most likely to watch?
Over 50% said that they are most likely to watch channel AKA, this shows that it is a popular music channel and well established/well known. The next most popular was Kerrang however starz and Kiss were not chosen by many, possibly because of the genre of music played or the amount of videos they play, (could have frequent advert breaks).
6. Which website are you most likely to use?
Only two came up in peoples answers, almost all still answered with youtube and only 3 answered with mtv. This shows how much media control youtube holds and how frequently consumers use it. They have access to almost all music videos of all artists and genres on one website, therefore making it very popular amongst consumers.
Almost 25% said that they are most likely to listen to R&B and 25% said Pop. The next most popular was alternative, followed by a few answering for other genre's. These tend to be the most popular genre's in the chart therefore this result corresponds with national popularity of genre.
Although the results show that people preferred music videos from bands, there isn't a big difference in the results. Solo artists also got a good amount of preferability. This shows that it is more personal preference however bands could have come out on top as their music videos show image of more artists as well as having more going on in the video.
9. Why do music videos appeal to you?
Almost half of the participants said that music videos appeal to them to keep up with the artist. Just under 25% answered either Having visuals to link with the music or following artists latest look. These results show us how Keeping up with the artist is important to consumers, they like to understand what is going on in their lives and their overall image.
10. What is one of your all time favourite music videos?
This result shows us that people have their own individual, personal favourites. However it is clear that some of the favourite videos are from the current charts, therefore showing that this could be because they are at the front of their mind due to being current to now. The most popular music video was by Katy Perry, Last Friday Night (of which is currently in the charts); however this music video has a unique edge to it, it is much longer than most other music video and takes narrative to an extreme making it memorable, entertaining and clearly popular.
11. What type of music video do you most enjoy watching?
The results show that just under 50% most enjoy watching Narrative music videos, followed by over 1/3 most enjoying concept music videos and only 1/6 choosing performance based. This suggests that music videos are preferred when slightly unique and perhaps relevent to the artist as a way to view their image, thoughts and feelings. Narrative music videos often help the consumer to understand the lyrics to the song more than they may have before, which is a possiblity as to why it is shown to be the most popular.
Ancillary Results...
1. Age...

This shows me that in my questionairre I had a variation of age groups participating; however the results do show that almost half were between the age of 11 and 18 which would mean the results are more so slanted to the younger generation. I will keep in mind that the older the age group, the less people I managed to find to participate.
2. Gender...

This result shows that it was almost 50% of each gender however slightly more males answered than females. This result is not top heavy enough for me to need to take that into consideration however as it is such a small difference.
3. Does the cover of an album encourage you to buy it?

This result shows that the majority of people said that the cover of the album would encourage them to buy it; consumers are drawn in by what they see, therefore if an album cover is eye catching and appropriate to the artist they are more likely to buy it as they can't necessarily listen to any of the album so they have to go by appearance. However from looking at my completes questionairres it would seem that the older the person, the more likely they were to answer no; this could be because they have more of a refined music taste and know what albums they wish to buy.
4. On an album cover what sort of colours would you be looking for?

The most amount of people said that they would be looking for bright colours, this could be linked with the fact that the album cover needs to be eye catching for its audience; six people out of 30 also said they would like a mixture of colours which again would be eye catching and possible suitable for a variety of audiences. However, another six people said they would be looking for dark colours, although this could be linked in with the genre of music that appeals to them.
5. On an album cover what sort of font would you look for if the genre were to be 'alternative'?

Just over half of the people asked chose either pretty/delicate or curly; showing that this is what people link in with being alternative, perhaps quirky. This could show a difference to the expected font on album covers which could be bold, italic etc. Other options were chosen however not as popular and could be more to do with personal preferance accross the board.
6. Do you prefer album covers with or without a photo of the artist on it?

The majority of people asked decided that they preferred album covers with a photo of the artist on it. This could be to do with the fact that many people like to follow artists image or have a new visual to link the music to. The results show that this is a popular want from the audience for an album cover and therefore could be a major aspect to help sell the album. Through having the photo the consumer can also easily see who the album is by when browsing in a retail store.
7. What would attract you to an artist's advert in a magazine?

50% of those asked said that an equal amount would attract them to the advert; the picture could catch the consumers eye however they would be looking for information on the product to allow them to have the option of buying the product knowing details about it - therefore writing is necessary. however over 1/3 said that mainly picture would attract them, this could be to do with attraction to the artist or again, following the artists image.
8. What colours would you like on the advert for an 'alternative' genre?

Almost 25% of people chose black as being a colour that they would want, this again could be because it could be slightly quirky fitting in with the alternative genre however just over 25% also said they would want bright colours which shows another view to 'alternative' showing how it is a varied genre of music suiting a range of people.
9. How much information about the album being advertised would you expect on the advert?

The results show that a variation of information is wanted, however they do show that the audience would want the information kept brief on the advert and not long sentences but quotes and song names etc as shown - almost 1/3 said they would want named chart hits of the album on the advert.
